Hi, I'm Brett.

I recently completed my PhD at the University of California, Santa Barbara in the Department of Global Studies. For those unaware, Global Studies is a relatively new interdisciplinary field which examines systems, networks and power dynamics that are involved in world-scale processes.  My research sits at the intersection of capitalism and technology.

In particular, I'm interested in the ways that societies and markets develop (or fail to develop) governance approaches to address risks and complexities posed by new and emerging technologies. Most of my current projects are centered around big data, artificial intelligence and algorithmic governmentality.
